WOODSTOCK — The region’s must-see film event has grown larger again.

The Woodstock Film Festival will showcase more than 150 films and debut more than 60 in its 11th year, according to a lineup announced Wednesday. The 60 debuts is a new high mark for the “fiercely independent” festival, which has become a formidable force.

In the tradition of the festival, advocates of independent film will be seen and saluted. Actor Keanu Reeves will receive an Excellence in Acting Award, while his film co-starring Accord resident Vera Farmiga, “Henry’s Crime,” will have its U.S. premiere at the festival.
Other big premieres include the New York debut of “Stone,” a film starring Robert DeNiro and Edward Norton that will close the festival, and the East Coast premiere of “Welcome to the Rileys,” which stars Kristen Stewart and Stone Ridge resident Melissa Leo.

As always, the Hudson Valley plays a primary role in the Woodstock Film Festival – more than 15 films with ties to the region will be screened, including the “Fright Night” presentation of Vincent D’Onofrio’s “Don’t Go Into the Woods.” D’Onfrio will be present for a Q&A; and most of the 150 films will feature a similar corresponding presentation.
Woodstock Film Festival co-founder Meira Blaustein noted about 95 percent of the selected films will be represented by their filmmakers.

“They all get to know each other, and for them it’s going to be a big party,” Blaustein said. “It’s a really, really great convergence of a lot of talented people from all over.”

Along with screenings, the festival will feature parties, the annual Maverick Awards and expert panels; the highly regarded Actor’s Dialogue will bring in recent Emmy winner Edie Falco.

The 2010 Woodstock Film Festival is Sept. 29-Oct. 3 throughout Woodstock, Kingston, Mount Tremper, Rhinebeck and Rosendale.
